Group Therapy

Aspiring Hearts Counseling offers a variety of therapy groups. Typically our groups meet regularly for approximately 60-90 minutes. The meeting times and dates are dependent on the group. We accept most insurance plans as well as out of pocket payments. Contact us for more information about our groups or to arrange participation in a group.

Some of our current group offerings include:

Anger Management
Anger management groups teach highly effective anger management skills and techniques. Clients are provided with a safe, supportive environment that enables them to learn:

  • When anger is harmful versus when it is beneficial
  • What triggers anger
  • One’s own inappropriate expressions of anger and the resulting consequences
  • Alternate ways for expressing anger more appropriately
  • Strategies for managing anger including self-talk, personal time-outs, problem solving, and relaxation techniques

 

Self-Esteem
Self esteem groups teach coping skills and ways to promote higher self-esteem within oneself. Clients are provided with a safe, supportive environment that enables them to learn:

  • When negative self-talk is harmful
  • What triggers negative self-talk
  • Ways to promote positive self talk
  • Strategies for improving self-esteem

 

Social Skills
Social skills group focuses on improving communication, learning more effective ways of handling peer pressure, dealing with siblings and/or family conflict, learning better problem-solving and decision-making skills, exploring issues related to self-image, and learning more effective ways of handling stress in home, school, and community situations. Clients are provided with a safe, supportive environment that enables them to learn:

  • Appropriateness and importance of using positive social skills with others
  • Various social skills and ways to remember to use them

 

Trauma / Grief / Bereavement
Trauma / grief / bereavement groups focus on coping with a variety of feelings, thoughts, and behaviors associated with significant loss, divorce, injury, or witnessing a traumatic event. Clients are provided with a safe, supportive environment that enables them to learn:

  • The importance of allowing oneself to feel and positively expressing emotions
  • Strategies for coping with the event and its associated feelings and thoughts
  • Triggers for thoughts and feelings
  • How one typically responds to triggers and how to modify those responses

 

Vocational / Job Finding (Adults Only)
Vocational groups focus on determining which job would be a great fit, learning appropriate skills for applying, developing and submitting resumes, and interview training. This group also provides participants with support and networking in the job finding process. Clients are provided with a safe, supportive environment that enables them to learn:

  • Ways to identify appropriate jobs
  • Developing and submitting a professional application and resume
  • Importance of interviews and interview skills
  • Strategies and practice for interview taking

 

Parent Skills Training
Parent skills training groups focus on helping any parent be more effective by providing and practicing positive parental strategies that will decrease negative behaviors and yelling, as well as helping parents develop better parent-child relationships. Clients are provided with a safe, supportive environment that enables them to learn:

  • Definition and importance of Democratic parenting
  • How to develop a clear parental philosophy
  • Ways to address child raising challenges and problems
  • Strategies that will reduce negative behaviors, reduce yelling, and help develop better relationships

 

Youth Alternative Living Support Group
Alternative living support groups focus on providing support for children who are no longer living with their biological parents as well as their caregivers. Clients are provided with a safe, supportive environment that enables them to:

  • Learn ways to appropriately express feelings
  • Learn strategies for coping with the change in living situations
  • Give and receive support for no longer living with biological parents
